Applied kinesiology is the science of muscle activation. To be very brief it involves the balancing of the body by restoring muscle balance. The testing methods were first developed to determine the weakness/strength of particular muscles. Using these techniques, a muscle is isolated from the group that it normally works with thereby putting it at a disadvantage. Gently applying pressure to this muscle will quickly reveal if it is weak, it will give or hurt. A muscle which tests weak indicates some blockage or constriction or stress in the energy flow. Then, various things can be done to re-balance the body and the muscle will then, test strong.
I borrowed the testing methods and based on the fact that stress to the body can be measured in muscle strength, a poison touching the body, in the mouth, or even pictured in the mind will stress the body enough to weaken the muscle for a few seconds. This works for allergens very well.
The easiest muscle to use is the deltoid or shoulder muscle. Just extend the arm out from the body and hold it at shoulder height. Pressure is gently applied to the arm between the wrist and the elbow to determine its strength. (Remember the exercise the windmill? You begin by raising both arms and then bending at the waist and touching the opposite foot. It is the same basic stance.)
Another favorite is the anterior deltoid, which is isolated by holding the arm in front of the body at about a 45 degree angle. The arm does not cross the front of the body, it is in a straight line with the shoulder. Pressure is applied to push the arm back into the body. (The easiest way to explain without a picture is stand normally, place the hand on the front of the thigh and raise it about a foot and a half off the thigh.)
Experiment with a friend until this works well for you. Place something in your mouth or against your body that is good for you then something you know is bad and notice the strength of the muscle. After awhile, you can learn to self-test using the thumb and index finger and pulling them apart, but learn this way first.
I was taught that you must place the substance to be tested against your clavicle and hold it there with one finger of the other hand thereby completing a circuit. Since then I have seen alot of sloppy tests work just fine. I can now self-test right in a store by holding a product on my solar plexus and closing my eyes, I breathe deeply and relax and if I lean forward it is a "yes" if I lean backward it is a "no". You must choose the method that works best for you.
Using a muscle testing method, you can begin to discern what is best for your body. Some people can even learn to get yes and no answers. An alternative therapy called Body Talk identifies what emotion or trauma is held in the body and where, using muscle testing.
I was first introduced to these methods at a seminar on acupressure, a seminar on muscle testing by John Diamond, and from a book on Touch for Health by John Thie D.C.
What luck! Rebecca Marina made us a video to demonstrate two ways to do simple muscle tests on yourself. Make sure you watch this.
